A little bit about me

Hello! I’m Josie! I’m 23 years old and have been working with children for several years. I nannied for a family of 4 kids in my neighborhood for a couple years while I was in high school, and for the past 4 years I’ve been a nanny for the same family, caring for their daughter since she was 17 months old.
She is starting kindergarten, so I’ll be going part-time and am looking for some extra hours! Over the past 4 years, I’ve been able to be there for so many of her milestones, including helping her learn to talk, her colors, and potty training. I was also involved in helping her get into Rowland Hall, one of the most well-regarded schools in Utah.
I’ve taken her to Little Gym classes, swimming lessons, library story time, parks, museums, and other activities in the community to keep her learning, active, and social. I love arts and crafts, playing outside, walks and hikes, and finding fun activities that kids enjoy!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Some activities I enjoy doing with children, both indoors and outdoors, are going to the park, playing with chalk, painting, and doing water activities outside with a pool or sprinkler. I also love taking kids to the craft store and letting them pick out a craft that interests them! We could go to the dinosaur park, museums, aquariums, or Thanksgiving Point and let them choose which activities they want to do. I’m also always up for bigger adventures like Lagoon! I love giving kids different options and letting them be involved in choosing what sounds fun to them. There are so many fun activities and experiences to explore, and I’m always happy to get creative!

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think one of the most important parts of being a nanny is creating a healthy, trusting relationship with the children. I want the children to know they can trust me, come to me when they need help, and feel comfortable being themselves around me. I want to be someone they can have fun with and look up to, while also being a responsible nanny and setting appropriate boundaries.

I also want the parents to feel completely comfortable knowing their children are safe and cared for when they’re with me. Communication and trust with the parents are just as important. Another really important part of being a nanny is being reliable. I want families to know they can count on me and that I will take my responsibilities seriously.

My experience with special needs children...

When I was in school, I had a period where I would go into special education classrooms and help children with their classes and schoolwork when they needed extra support. I also have personal, hands-on experience through my family. I have a cousin with Down syndrome and a brother who is autistic, so I’ve grown up around and have experience interacting with and caring for children with different needs. These experiences have taught me the importance of being patient, understanding, flexible, and meeting each child where they are.
