A little bit about me

I am not your average "nanny". I would call myself more of a "Granny". I was honored to serve as a Midwife Assistant to the Old Order Amish community in rural Wisconsin and was present at more births than I can count. I was also a volunteer EMT for 12 years for the same community. My husband and I moved to Hendersonville 4 years ago. (I have been working with Hospice for all those years and this year I received the top award for Compassion). I so miss caring for and loving on little ones. People have often described me as calm, caring, and level headed. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was the Director of a 125 child Learning Center in Wisconsin. I taught Art Education with all agegroups. I hold an Art Ed degree with a minor in Psychology that included Exceptional Children. I raised an incredible son. Cared for multiple children in respite situations. Cared for many children during my 12 years as an EMT. Worked at various summer camps with children of all ages.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Art projects - painting, coloring, drawing, etc. Craft projects. Going on hikes (age appropriate). Singing, playing simple instruments, exploring nature. role play, talking about what we see, imagining, and instilling goodness and kindness in children at a very young age...and so much more.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I realize if you choose to entrust me with your child(ren) that there is no greater show of trust. I will honor that trust and do everything within my power and resources to keep them safe, loved, and nurtured. I will commit myself to them when they are in my charge. They will be my first and only priority.

My experience with special needs children...

I was an ASL (American Sign Language) interpreter for a deaf family in Ohio and served as a substitute teacher for K - 12 at the Ohio School for the Deaf. . .

The most important part about being a nanny...

I was often present with the children I helped bring into this world throughout there young life. Some children I knew from the first breath until we moved from Wisconsin. The majority of these children were Amish (Old Order) so initially spoke no English (typically not until they went to school. So we would communicate in other ways. To see these little ones know me and react to me was and still is thrilling. Because I looked different to them (I did not wear a prayer cap and have my hair mostly hidden). When I would stop at the farms I would be instantly surrounded by little ones of all ages. As they learned English we increased our communication and life became fascinating. We visit Wisconsin at times of weddings and all the children still know me and react with wonder. I am generally the only "English" person they know.
