A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Julia and I am a 21-year-old student from the University of Wisconsin La-Cross. I have an extensive background in childcare, from volunteering at a local children's museum and in church nurseries as a youth, to nannying for children of various ages in my high school and more recent college years. As one of nine kids, I've grown up with a love for young children. I find working with children enjoyable and refreshing, and I often discover that I can learn much from their young perspectives and little thoughts. I have always held a great value for nature and the outdoors, as well as art and creativity, and is something I want to share with younger generations. As someone planning on going into education, I am looking to get as much experience as possible in this upcoming season and I look forward to meeting you and your dear kids. :)

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have grown up volunteering in church nurseries, at a local children's museum, and have had various childcare and babysitting positions for the past 10 years.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love taking the children outside for walks, yard activities, or making up silly outdoor games with the children. I like reading storybooks to the children and coming up with different crafts and art projects with them. I think it's good for children to have a structure in their days, but also value spontaneous fun and play.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Alertness and awareness of the children and their environment, making sure that they are safe and feel safe, and listening to them always (even if it is non-verbal or simple babbling).

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have many dear memories that stand out to me from my time in chidcare, but one that was extra sweet is from my most recent nannying position. Because it had been chilly and rainy that whole day, A, the three-year-old girl I cared for, and I had become restless and stir crazy, so while her brother napped, she and I devised a game that we called "Ice Skate." This game was essentially me spinning her around in her wool socks on her family's wood floor, as she "ice skated" her way through an ice skating compititon (which she won, by the way). We did this until her brother woke up and then revised it in a way to involve him. While it was just a simple game, it allowed us both to have sweet and genuine fun with each other, aswell as stretching our legs a bit.
Its moments like that that make working in childcare so worth it to me and I am excited to get have more dear moments like that in the future.
