A little bit about me

Caring for children has been one of the most rewarding opportunities I've had. To be someone they can look up to, feel safe with, and trust is unbelievably fulfilling. The children I have cared for in the past have taught me to look at life in a little more color, to listen to music that makes me dance, and to use my imagination even as I get older. I have gained a better understanding of young minds, especially through teaching. I feel confident in my ability to promote healthy coping mechanisms when a child may feel overwhelmed. I have had many opportunities to provide lessons and learning experiences disguised as games and activities. Those who love their job are, normally, the hardest working and provide the highest quality of service. Caring for children is something that I truly love which, in turn, makes me believe that I am a wonderful fit to care for your child!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have experience teaching dance classes to children between the ages of 2 and 6. I took dance lessons at that age so to be the teacher was a full-circle moment for me. I learned a lot about the developmental side of childcare and how to disguise learning and lessons in the form of activities and games! Seeing how proud they get when they finally feel confident in that one move they've been working so hard to practice is precious! I also learned that small children can have big emotions! I've gathered lots of tools and strategies to help them manage those big feelings, again, in the form of activities and imaginative exercises!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love arts and crafts, sparking imagination during playtime, reading books, dancing, and other activities that promote creativity when indoors! When outside and weather permitting, I love going for walks, playing I spy, drawing with chalk, or kicking around a ball! I always love to have lots of activities planned ahead to keep kids engaged, excited, safe, and always learning something new!

The most important part about being a nanny...

I feel the most important part about being a nanny is to ensure that the child/children are safe. That is, and always will be, number one! Being and feeling safe opens up the door to so much more. If a child feels safe in your care, they will be willing to learn new things through fun and exciting activities, they’ll be comfortable with exploring their imagination, they’ll trust you to be there for them and they’ll enjoy the time spent together!

My experience with special needs children...

I taught a dance workshop in a special needs classroom. The children were between the ages of 5 and 7.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I was caring for one of the little girls I babysat a few years ago. I was having a rough day before going over to the family's home. I knew I had to leave whatever was bothering me at the door in order to be fully present and attentive. I did just that and throughout our afternoon, we did activities and danced around the living room. We went for a walk on the beach and the way that little girl soaked up the view like nothing else mattered in the world was so inspiring to me. That day, she taught me that nothing is ever too big for me to overcome. She taught me a lot that day.

I am currently living in north Raleigh/NC. I have 9 years of experience taking care of children, my native language is Portuguese, I speak Spanish and English. I always like to stimulate children's creativity so that each activity becomes fun, making the child pay attention and learn at the same time. I developed a great affection for taking care of children. I’m CPR and first aid certified and nursery, babysitter and au pair certified.
I am a proactive, patient, careful, empathetic and a happy person. I love outside activities, being creative, read books. I’m fully vaccinated, I have great cooking skills, I’m a strong driver but I only have my international drive permission and I can provide a reference if necessary.
Maya R. - Seeking Work in Raleigh

Full-Time Nanny Available in Raleigh, NC: Maya R.

Hello! My name is Maya Richardson. I am 27 years old from Long Island, NY. I moved back to Raleigh about 4 years ago and in that time I’ve worked a lot with kids of all ages. I spent some time working as a correctional officer for the women’s prison here in Raleigh. On my days off I would spend a lot of time babysitting for my friends and family. I then decided I wanted to get back in the classroom so I was a TA for about 2 years. This gave me so much more knowledge about children and the classroom than I already knew. I’m currently a teller at Wells Fargo, but I’m hoping to get back in the childcare world as a nanny. I know that I would make a fantastic nanny, due to my experience, my love for children and the fact that I feel like I adapt very quick to any environment. I am the nanny you are looking for. You nor your children will be disappointed after choosing me! Thank you.
