In 2013, I was the program assistant for Unity at Station Camp Middle School. This was the after school program. I was responsible for assisting with homework and leading activities with small groups of children.
In 2016, I provided in home care for 2 boys, aged 2 and 4, and occasionally a third, age 5.
I spent weekdays, 8-5 with the boys. I prepared their meals, played with them, enforced nap time, and for the 2 year old — occasional diaper changes.
I formed bonds with many children in my care and still miss the ones I no longer see.
I have been out of childcare for many years, but I have been in my stepson's life for 5 years now. I've been blessed to see him grow and to be an influence in his life. I am also expecting a son in December.
October 2022 - November 2022, after school care for a 4 year old.

My experience with special needs children...
When I worked as Station Camp Middle, I had several students with special needs. Generally, everyone was very mild mannered, however there were times when boundaries had to be set. This can be delicate, but as with all children, corrections made with patience and respect are usually better received.
I also have experience working with adults with special needs. For years, I have managed at a restaurant that employed adults with special needs. I have learned a great deal about the individuals I have worked with and how to interact best with each of them.

When a child becomes comfortable enough with you to offer affection. The last child (4 yo) I nannied told me he loved me, unprompted, after a week together.
