Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I was an assistant teacher at an early education daycare. I worked there for 8 months, taking care of infants through pre-k age groups, I primarily worked with the toddler and preschool age groups; rooms were in ratios, the highest one being 1:8. Some of my responsibilities included: maintaining a safe and comforting environment for both the children and families, working on and assisting/leading lessons and activities to teach foundational skills, meal prep, nap time assistance and potty training. I identified strengths and weaknesses that I had, carving out time to work on improving all aspects of my performance.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I lean towards more creative aspects when it comes to activities, preferring a hands-on approach. Arts and crafts is definitely an activity that I enjoy setting up and doing; I love getting input from the kids, as well as the parents, on what they would like to do/create. I like activities that have children work towards a finished product they can show while also allowing them to personalize what they are creating, making it unique to them. I also like to include music throughout the day such as, listening to interactive/action songs, having dance parties and having it play in the background during activities if they would like. Reading books with them is an activity that I find very important and engaging; I tend to ask them small questions throughout the story as well to further gauge their reactions. I am open to all other kinds of approaches as well if preferred!
The most important part about being a nanny...
I always make sure I establish trust between myself and the family as well as respecting them and their practices. Safety is also of the utmost importance; keeping a close eye on the children and maintaining a safe environment for them to grow, learn, and explore. Creating a bond with the child by making sure they feel heard, special, and cared about is also fundamental in being a nanny.
