Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have raised two children who are now adults. I have three grandchildren. The boys stay with me often and every month we go on a new adventure. I'll pick a place where we haven't been and they won't know where it is until we arrive. It's always a surprise. I have been a substitute teacher for many years, mostly for Pre-K to third grade. I'm very creative and enjoy having fun with kids.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love doing things with kids outdoors when the weather is nice. Whether it's kicking a ball around or playing at the playground or just taking a walk. If permitted, I enjoy local events and festivals that are age appropriate. Indoors I enjoy board games with older kids and learning toys for the younger ones. I like helping the kids with their school work as well. I'm very active and not normally at a loss for things to do.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important thing about being a nanny is being a good role model and mentor and keeping kids safe and happy. It's very rewarding to watch kids learn new things and become their own person.
My experience with special needs children...
I have been a substitute teacher for special needs children and have worked for Catholic Charities with individuals who have physical and emotional disabilities. However, I am very active and am not looking to work with special needs children at this time.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Kids say the darkest things. My experience with children has been with my own grandchildren and in a school setting. The funniest thing I can remember is when I took the boys on a lake boat tour. We landed on some shore and were allowed to get off the boat and walk along the shore. We noticed one boat must have arrived when it was high tide. Now that the tide was lower, they were having a hard time getting it back into the water. I said, "They're stuck." And just as serious as could be, the five year old said, "We better call 911." He was dead serious., worried that they needed help. Kids make me laugh in general.
