More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I was a full time nanny for a 4 year old for a few months in Austin TX. My entire life I've been playing the role of caretaker beginning as a certified babysitter and lifeguard at the age of 13. I have worked with individuals with special needs, helped friends raise their children and enjoy every second I get with my young niece and nephew. I spent a few years as a bartender and feel that accurately counts as adult babysitting :)
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I up for about anything. I especially enjoy outdoor adventures(swimming, hiking, etc) as well as anything that involves creativity and imagination. I am an artist as well as a musician and also have fun encouraging our inner rhythms through song and dance.
The most important part about being a nanny...
having fun but also establishing a mutual respect between myself and the family. I always aim to keep an open mind and remain flexible to/honor the needs of each individual. To have the respect of the child means they are more likely to listen to and be more trusting of me. I prefer positive reinforcement and talking/listening as techniques to establish this relationship.
My experience with special needs children...
I started my experience working with special needs individuals at a very young age helping my mother with special needs activity programs. The compassion and empathy I learned from these early experiences lead me to some volunteer work for a special needs day camp.
