Hello ! My name is Kaia. I am 23 years old, and I live in Salt Lake City. I am a recent graduate from the University of Utah with a bachelor's in Criminology and a minor in art. I have spent the last year post-grad interning with a non-profit at an after-school program, working with refugee and immigrant kids, getting my Wilderness First Responder Certification, and working at an outdoor kids' camp as a nursing assistant in the High Sierra Mountains of California. Currently, I am working at going back to school in order to pursue a degree in nursing!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I worked with a non-profit called Youthlinc. I was assigned to Woodrow Wilson Elementary School, where I ran a section of their after-school program and brought activities for the kids. The program caters to unhoused, refugee, and immigrant families.
I also worked at Shaffer's High Sierra Camp. An outdoor sleepaway camp where I worked as a nursing assistant. I ran the camp clinic, providing first aid and support to the children.
Along with experience babysitting for families in my neighborhood from ages 13-18.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy anything that gets kids active, using their imaginations, and off of their screens. I love spending time outdoors, whether that means going on walks, exploring nature, riding bikes, or playing at the park. I also enjoy creative activities like arts and crafts and imaginative games. Most of all, I like finding activities that match a child’s interests and letting them take the lead in exploring, creating, and having fun. Because kids are genuinely so interesting and fun when given the opportunity to just be who they are!

The most important part about being a nanny...

I think the most important part of being a nanny is understanding the responsibility that comes with being a consistent and trusted adult in a child’s life. I know that the adults I grew up around played an important role in shaping the woman I have become, and I think it is a beautiful responsibility to have the opportunity to positively contribute to a child’s life. I would love to model and encourage qualities like imagination, a love of the outdoors, kindness, patience, healthy communication, and strong boundaries while also creating an environment where a child feels safe, supported, and free to be themselves.

My experience with special needs children...

I have experience working with children on the autism spectrum in both school and clinical settings. My time working in an elementary school taught me how important it is to adapt my communication and approach to each child’s individual needs, personality, and communication style. In a clinical setting, I learned how to create a calm, safe, and welcoming environment where children could feel comfortable and supported. These experiences have taught me to be patient, attentive, and flexible, and to meet each child where they are while helping them feel understood and cared for.
