More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I was the director of the physical education department at Prince of Peace Christian School and Early learning center. for 20 years. I taught PE to preschool through high school students, high school health and mddle school science. When I retired I was asked return part time to train and handle a service dog to work with the students at the school who struggled with anxiety, as well as teach Preschool PE and PlayWisely classes. (A cognitive and physical program designed to enhance the neuroligical links necessary for successful learning.) I taught both programs and swimming lessons to my preschool students and coached the swim team for the school until we moved in 2021 to Pike Road. Unfortunately, the service dog program ended in 2020 with the onset of Covid. I purchased the service dog and she is now one of my "water rescue"/therapy dogs.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
All of them. I have taught and coached swimming, soccer, cheer, track, cross country, and gymnastics for kids from infants to high school. I am still a certified personal trainer and a huge advocate of "Little Gym".
I love theatre, dance and the arts,. I enjoy providing opportunities for kids to experience and create art in every mode. I feel these experiences are an essential part of their brain development. Music has always played a huge role in all of the programs I've taught and coached. I love reading books with kids and then watching them interpret the thoughts, feelings or message presented in the book in some other art form. (clay, paint, paper mache, dance, or games ) I feel reading is as important as physical activity. With preschoolers I encourage a combination of movement with letter/word recognition activities that are essential for hardening the neural pathways necessary for mastery of learning skills for life.

The most important part about being a nanny...
Respect and Love. Every child deserves to be recognized, listened to, and demonstrated respect. Give every child the gift of time... time to grow, time to learn and time to be celebrated for his or her gifts....the develpmental spectrum should be used as a guide not a grade.
My experience with special needs children...
I have develped and taught physical activity, science and health programs for children with a multible of physical challenges as well as those children who that have been diagnosed with neurodivergent learning and emotional challenges.
The most important part about being a nanny...
We used an "obstacle course" in my preschool PE class. The kids referred to it as the "obstacle corpse".
