A little bit about me

I’m a single mother of 3 adult children. My oldest has an undergrad degree in landscape architecture & a master’s in design architecture from OSU. She played trumpet in the band. My middle graduated from Univ of Cincinnati w/ an undergrad degree in business analytics. He also played snare drum in the band. He has a master’s in data science from Utica Univ, NY. My youngest works for a tree & lawn service co & is one of the youngest foremen of 60+ employees. He also has a lawncare/landscaping & plowing business (since he was 10 yo).
My formal education includes attending KSU in which I majored in Business Admin/Marketing.
Having worked in the business field, for many yrs, my most gratifying job was being a stay-at-home mother for 14 great yrs. In fact, I homeschooled for a time. As an empty nester, I am flexible, experienced & do what I love.. care, nurture, give attention & provide a safe environment. More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

For several years, I was involved in the toddler department at church. As coordinator, I organized the monthly schedule for volunteers & was responsible for providing them w/ weekly age-appropriate Bible stories & activities. Later, I taught a combined 3rd & 4th grade class. Eventually, during Wednesday nights, I taught the 5th grade class. Many years later, when my youngest son entered middle school, I joined the middle school Leadership Team & helped facilitate weekly small groups. After worship & Bible activities, as part of the leadership team, I led small group sessions where we talked about a variety of topics and delved into the Bible relating to honoring our parents, developing healthy friendships, dating, handling peer pressure, bullying, living out our Christian faith at home, school & work; how to be a leader, not a follower; missions opportunities, community outreach, societal problems, cultural differences, etc.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy taking kids to the zoo, library, parks, walking trails & nature walks, swimming (age-appropriate), local festivals, the YMCA, & anywhere that combines fun w/ educational activities. I thoroughly enjoy reading w/ children of all ages, anything that’s learning-related, playing games of all sorts & baking.
On a slightly different note, if mom & dad are favorable to the idea & age-appropriate, I believe it’s important to teach responsibility & teamwork (studies also show it develops self-confidence) in the form of cleaning-up after one’s self, doing chores, etc.

The most important part about being a nanny...

The ultimate role for me is to protect & nurture my nanny kids. Additionally, as a former homeschool teacher, I appreciate the value of learning so, whenever there’s a chance to teach, I try taking advantage of those opportunities. It could be discovering an innate talent; a creative ability; a school subject that they enjoy or excel in. It may be a subject that they’re struggling in & then encouraging & praising them when they’ve mastered it. It’s gratifying to watch & help them grow & develop into whom they’re meant to become. As one who believes that teaching & learning are important, I enjoy exposing my nanny kids to an idea or *lesson* that I can see when they have an ‘ah-ha’ moment. At the same time, it’s just as important to watch them be a kid & that is to have fun.. to play, explore, laugh, be happy 😁 It’s imperative that kids learn early in life that balance is essential in becoming a well-rounded person.

My experience with special needs children...

I have a heart for those w/ special needs. My experience includes working as a teacher’s assistant at an elementary school where I specifically worked w/ an autistic child. He thrived when patience & affirmation were exhibited. I saw enormous improvement while working alongside him. It was a very gratifying experience. He was a lovable child when provided w/ the necessary tools given to him & when he was taken care of in the appropriate manner. Additionally, one of the nanny children I worked for was also autistic. When hired, he was 12 yo & was a teddy bear w/ me from the moment we met. We immediately clicked w/ each other on many levels. He required a great deal of one-on-one time & like the other boy, affirmation was his love language. He is now 21 yo, is thriving quite well, & is currently employed at a high-end resort & golf course country club.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I have a couple favorites:
- when I catch siblings helping each other w/ a random task or solving a problem together
- watching a sibling let their handicapable sibling win a challenge of sorts (ie., hide & seek, board/card/or video game, a physical race, scavenger hunt, etc.)
