The most important part about being a nanny...
Having fun in a safe environment is the most important thing. Children need an outlet to be themselves while they are learning and growing into young adults. Teaching our young ones the emotional tools and skills while letting them be kids and having fun can set them up for an amazing life.
My experience with special needs children...
In high school I took part in a special education gym class working with a group of my peers. It was an amazing opportunity to learn first hand more about special needs and it gave the special needs children more experience with peers outside of their classroom. This was a semester long class and I was hand picked to help the first year it ran in my high school, it was one of my favorite classes my senior year!
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment was with a little girl, she was having a hard day and couldn't figure out how to handle it. Children aren't born knowing how to handle their emotion or how to express how they are feeling. I sat down with her and we practiced our breathing to calm down and then we talked about what she was feeling and where (ex: I feel sad I want to cry I feel it in my throat) Teaching children how to handle these emotions that are hard for everyone to handle can make their lives so much better, if they know why or what they are feeling they can better communicate that with a loved one and it can lead to a better relationship with their parents and with themselves. After talking with this girl she was ready to play again and has a better understanding of herself, that was the best moment.
