More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I was a babysitter for two families in highschool (5+ hours a week) which included preparing snacks, helping with homework, changing diapers, and a little housework.
I was also a student teacher for an afterschool youth theatre program in meridian MS. I was often responsible for 15 children (ages 7-12) at a time and would lead them through acting lessons, singing lessons, and learning choreography.
Over the summer of 2024 I was a full time nanny (36 hours weekly) for a family here in Hattiesburg. I was responsible for breakfast, lunch, and snacks. I would get the two girls ready for the day (getting dressed, hair, brushing teeth). I would plan and create lesson plans for the girls as they were pre-k ages. I would accompany the family on outings. Housework included laundry, dishes, sweeping/mopping, and basic picking up after the children and the family.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love to go play outside! I like to bring activities like bubbles, or chalk. Sometimes soccer or just tossing a ball is the most fun a child can have! I really enjoy creating learning activities for young ones as it’s something I grew up helping my own mom do for the little ones at church. I’m all about creativity! I do have plenty of experience with music so if acceptable to the family I like to teach learning songs or music in general.

The most important part of being a nanny for me is working with their parents towards making a positive impact in a child’s life.

My experience with special needs children...

When I was an after school theatre teacher (I was a high school student at the time) we had many neurodivergent students under our care. I have always been able to understand special needs students easily and have taken classes on how autism, Down syndrome, and other special needs can affect children’s minds. I do not think having special needs makes a child more difficult if you take the time to learn their way of communication and what they read the best. One of my goals in life is to start my own after school theatre program for students with learning disabilities as I feel they are often snubbed in the arts but oftentimes bring the most to the creative world.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Starting a daily “circle time” which included sitting on a blanket on the floor and working on reading, writing, math, and drawing in their own customized notebooks. We would then listen and sing along to educational songs and learn dances for them! The most fun and the children love it.
