A little bit about me

Hello, my name is Katie. I have a very upbeat personality and have been told I have lots of patience. I meet each child at their level and needs, and I treat each day with a clean slate. I am a "hands-on nanny" meaning that I typically engage with the child(ren) instead of just "watching from a distance." I find engaging with the child(ren) allows for a more all-around positive experience and can help boost social and developmental skills (and motor skills depending on the age) as well as keep them from becoming bored.

I have a kiddo myself, a baby that would be joining me.

My hobbies include gardening, walking my dogs, and reading.

I have worked in the school system as an Interpreter/TA with special needs children and as a substitute teacher. I started my journey on this path at 13 as a "mothers helper" to a pair of twins down the street. I then "graduated" to nannying and tutoring in 9th grade and have been doing so since.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Prior to COVID, I was a substitute teacher during the school year. I was an Interpreter/TA for 2 years in a first and second grade classroom. I was a nursery lead during my time in college for the church I attended. I was a camp counselor for a special needs camp in Oklahoma my junior year of college. I helped in the nursery and Vacation Bible School while in High School.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

This varies depending on the age of the child(ren), however indoors I enjoy doing crafts, motor skill development activities like stacking cups or cards, hide and seek, boardgames, reading books and other activities that gets them moving and/or engages their mind. Outdoors I enjoy doing "exploration" where we look around us to discover the wonders of nature looking at bugs and leaves and if they are older then looking up facts about them. I also enjoy kicking or throwing a ball around, supervising play at parks, chalk art on the sidewalk/driveway, etc.
