More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
In school, I chose to be an assistant for the elementary school. I was a TA for first, second, fifth grade and in an SSN room. At 19 years old, I became a para for an elementary school in an SSN room. Total of 13 kids, ages of kindergarten to fifth grade. I worked with low functioning, non-verbal and high functioning, verbal children. I also became an aunt at a very young age. I was the go-to babysitter for my sister-in-laws when they went back to work. Became very familiar with newborns. I have worked with a family for years too. I recently worked at a drug/alcohol rehab for the last three years. I took care of adults instead of kids. I was a behavioral health tech. It was almost babysitting in certain aspects. I was marking their attendance and whereabouts. Helping them establish a routine and have a schedule to follow to create structure. I worked side by side with nurses, PA's and therapists. I'm well versed in CPR, First Aid, CPI, emergency protocols and handling seizures.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I'm still a kid at heart which means I will have fun doing anything. As long as the children or child I'm with is happy, I'll be happy doing whatever they choose. Some indoor activities I enjoy are:
Board games/card games, movies, hide n seek, arts/crafts,reading, make believe games, playing with dolls/Barbies, video games, and cooking/ baking. For outdoor, I enjoy any games like tag, playing catch or a small baseball game, playing at parks, feeding the ducks at the pond, swimming if there's a pool available, learning something new with nature, going somewhere of the child's choice like a museum or a easy hike, riding bikes and drawing with chalk on the sidewalk

The most important part about being a nanny...
Two major factors are building trust and providing consistent, attentive care. Specifically that includes:
1. Safety First- the child or children are always in a secure, supervised and healthy environment.
2. Emotional Support-Showing/demonstrating kindness, patience and being responsive so the child feels and safe and understood.
3. Reliability- Punctuality, following routines and allowing the parents and child to depend on you.
4. Communication- making sure the parents are constantly informed on their child's needs, behavior(s) and development.
5. Engagement- Actively helping the child with learning, playing and growing. Not "just watching them".
At the core of it all, it's about becoming a steady, caring presence in a child's life while respecting the parent's values and wishes.

My experience with special needs children...
I love working with special needs children. They steal my heart every time. I was a teavher's assistant for the high school SSN room when I was a senior. After I graduated, I was a SSN para professional at an elementary school. Worked with kids ranging in the ages of 5/6 to 10/11 years old. I worked with low functioning and non verbal kids along with high functioning and verbal kids. One of my absolute favorite jobs I've ever had.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The moments to me are the simple ones. I love when I'm told "you're my favorite adult or favorite person to play with" or even "I missed you". I love when children feel comfortable enough to hug me because they wanted to. I also love when I am given pictures that they colored, drew, painted... all of it. I will always make sure a child knows how much I care for them and how special they are. It's very nice to receive validation from a child that you are special to them back. That's how I know I'm contributing to their life in a positive manner.

Live-In Part-Time Nanny Available in Colorado Springs, CO: Shadra M.
Hi! I’m Shadra (or Shad), I’m 19 and a student at West Texas A&M University. I’ll be home for the summer and am looking to help families who need a reliable, positive babysitter!
I have a bubbly, upbeat personality and love creating a fun, safe environment where kids feel comfortable and entertained. I’ve been babysitting for years, starting with younger cousins and family friends and continuing through high school and college breaks.
I have experience with children as young as 6 months old and am comfortable caring for multiple kids (typically 1–3, up to 4). I’m used to keeping kids on routines (if needed) while also making sure they’re having fun with crafts, outdoor play, meals, and games.
I’m reliable, patient, and attentive, and I have several families who would be happy to provide references. While I’m not CPR certified, I am very safety-conscious and always prioritize the well-being of the children in my care.
I’d love to help your family this summer!
