More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have always wanted to be a babysitter and help moms take care of their kids. My first real experience was as a mothers helper, taking care of 3 girls (ages 2, 6 and 7). I would play games with the girls and keep them occupied, bathe them and get them ready for bed. Once I was a lifeguard and certified in First Aid/CPR, I officially became their babysitter and eventually their nanny. I have experience working at afterschool programs with a variety of ages from my volunteer work in highschool. I also have given swimming lessons and coached the novice group on my club team and have experience teaching and monitoring kids in the pool. In college, I babysat for my coach and his two sons (ages 1 and 4). This gave me more experience taking care of younger children, learning to change diapers and managing naps times.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy taking kids to the beach, the pool, playgrounds, trampoline parks, bike riding and even running errands/taking them shopping.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important part about being a nanny is developing a deep trust with both the parents and the children. Having that trust is crucial to having a real influence and respect from the kids. Being able to play a part in how they grow/develop is awesome.
My experience with special needs children...
I have some experience working with special needs children as well as adults. All four years of college my swim team worked with a program called advocates. The group had a very wide variety of ages, each member had special needs and/or a significant disability. Each of us partnered up with one of the members, we taught them to swim, played games and monitored everyone in the pool. I have also had some experience outside of this, some of which includes being patient during arguments or outbursts.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of the girls who had some behavioral issues struggled the most at bedtime. She would have tantrums and also had trouble falling asleep, her parents struggled with their bedtime routine.. The nights I was there I developed a system and once the girls got in bed I was able to use it to get her to fall asleep quickly. Her mom started using that method on nights I wasn't there, with success! Being able to gain control over the situation and figuring out a system that worked was a happy moment for me. Especially having all the kids asleep by the time their parents came home.
