Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I have had a few odd and end babysitting jobs but my most relevant work experience with children is when I was a head counselor at a theater camp for children from grades Kindergarten to 5th. I did this camp for several years and was a head counselor meaning I had to oversee all operations. I made sure they were fed, taken care of, and engaged. The kids loved it!
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love arts and crafts. The last group I nannied for I made a game of sorts for good behavior and homework. Every time they got a good report card or good remarks or aced a test they would get a ticket and in turn they could "buy" things with the tickets. I.E. I would bring them sweets, extra art time, etc... I often brought the kids I nannied to places like the ren faire, musicals, farmers market, etc... Sometimes we'd have art night where they were allowed to get as creative and as messy as they wanted which they quite enjoyed. Other times we would have a "book club" and I would get all of the little girls a children's chapter book and they were given a chapter to read a week and I would do the same then we would discuss it at the end of the week. Other times we would listen to podcasts dedicated to children to learn things such as other languages. I always liked to maintain an environment of free expression and learning.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think the most important part of being a nanny is making sure the children aren't just safe but enjoying their time. Of course there will be times that all a kid wants is to watch tv and ignore the world but helping them process life and giving them opportunities to express themselves and learn new things will be ultimately fulfilling for the child and the nanny!
The most important part about being a nanny...
This one little girl spent her allowance on getting me a book so that she could share with me as much as I shared books with her. It was quite thoughtful of her and her parents said that she refused help and wanted to use her own money!!
