Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
From the ages of 12-18 I worked with non-profit daycares in South-East Washington DC near where I grew up in Springfield, Virginia. In my Junior and Senior year, I participated in an Early Childhood Career course that allowed us to run our own in-school daycare. While living in Orlando Florida, I was employed at Ladybird academy for 2 years and worked with the infant room, the 1-2 year olds, and the elementary schoolers once they arrived after-school. Since I have lived in North Carolina I have worked with many families as a date night sitter and I have been working with a family in Chapel Hill for roughly a year now doing after-school care and pickup.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love group reading, jumping on the trampoline, swimming while weather permits, interacting with animals, going on nature walks, playing board/card games, and playing music together!
The most important part about being a nanny...
I think the most important part about being a nanny is having patience, flexibility, and understanding. Children are learning a plethora of new things everyday, and it takes a lot of emotional intelligence to navigate through a child's emotions and feelings. I also feel that clear communication is essential between the parents, the babysitter/nanny, and the children.
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with children who have autism, although I have minimal experience with non-verbal children.
The most important part about being a nanny...
My favorite nanny moment is probably when I am driving in the car with my regular family and we find a song we all know and belt out the song together.
