I baby sat for several families around the Watertown and Lebanon area for while I was in school during my breaks. I also was in a program my senior year where I went to the elementary school everyday to teach first graders and I LOVED it!

Respect. Respect is the most important thing you can give to a person no matter their age. Respect the families and the children. it is important to be someone the children can look up to and learn from. You want the children to be comfortable with you. View them as your own family.
My experience with special needs children...
My uncle has down syndrome so I am extremely familiar with that and too me they are still human with feelings that are just as valid as anyone else. Their needs may look different, but they are loved the same! I also was a peer helper for 3 years in high school with our special needs classes.
