Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I have worked as a tutor and college prep coach in LAUSD and in private homes. I have worked with various families as a nanny for the past five years. These families varied greatly in their respective children’s age groups.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

For indoor play I think crafts, reading, pretend play are great. I also try to use the interests of the children to inform the activities we do. For example, I had a NK who loved airplanes so we made paper airplanes and also went airplane watching as the park with binoculars.

For outdoor play, it is easy to use a family’s backyard space or outdoor area to use chalk, play with water, and walk to places nearby like the library.

The most important part about being a nanny...

So many people are disconnected to the work they do. Oftentimes, it is because they never see the impact of their job and how it is valued. Every day when I go in to work, I know that I am part of a team/community that values me as much as I value them. I support not just the nanny kids I watch; by doing my role, the nanny parents I am part of team with also able to have the capacity to do the things they need and want to do.

I have cared for children with autism in in educational settings and not in private homes.

The most important part about being a nanny...

One nanny kid asked me why I did not have a job like the other adults in his life. I laughed and told him because I spend all my time hanging out with him.
