A little bit about me

My name is Kristie. I raised my oldest niece from the time she was 3 months old until she turned 4 years old she is now 23 and she had been diagnosed with adhd and aspberger’s. I also have a little over 35 years of babysitting/taking care of children. When I was in high school one of my teachers held a parenting class from 6pm-9pm twice a week and I was the only one taking care of children ranging in ages from 8 weeks old to 10years old. I also babysat the two youngest children of a neighbor of mine for about 2-3 years until they moved. I also babysat for someone who used to go to my church and a neighbor of theirs. I babysat for them after school for about 4-5 hours a night 2-3 nights a week. I helped to raise my goddaughter (who is now 27 and has a soon to be 2 year old). I am very good with children and have noticed even at my full time job that if I say HI to a little one they automatically either smile, wave or say HI back.

More About Me

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Reading, doing arts and crafts, teaching younger children how to read and write. I also enjoy singing to put infants to sleep. Taking them outside(weather permitting) to walk, get some fresh air or take them to the park. I can also help with some homework, teaching shapes, colors and numbers.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being able to help all children learn to read, write and also be there to care for them and give them extra attention when they need it

My experience with special needs children...

I’ve only cared for my now 23 year old niece who had been diagnosed with ADHD and Asperger’s when she was younger. My 22 year old niece has had cerebral palsy and epilepsy since she was a baby and I also cared for her when she was living with me and afterwards. My other two nieces who are almost 21 and 18 also were born with health conditions and I also helped take care of them when they were younger if my sister in law needed the help or needed someone to watch them for the weekend when she worked.

I currently have 2 nieces who are 12 years old who have speech impediments and when they come down for a visit I help with them as well.

My goddaughter was diagnosed with JRA (juvenile rheumatoid arthritis) when she was 7, but had the symptoms way earlier than that and I helped take care of her as well.
