I volunteered to work with special needs preschoolers in high school, and greatly enjoyed my experience. I have babysat for many years, for my own family and other's. I was also a nanny for a year.

I really love doing arts and crafts. I think that all children should be encouraged to explore their creativity in all aspects. I also enjoy working on reading and writing. Teaching kids new board/card games is really fun. And I really love going to the park and/or on walks.

Past the basics of making sure the child is cared for, I think it's really important that they feel like they can be emotionally open and understood. Being able to adapt to what the child might need right then is incredibly important.

The little girl I nannyed, M, was an only child and had trouble playing with others. But, the more we worked on that, the more social she became! I remember the first time we went to the park and M actually wanted to play with the other kids. She shared some of the toys we had brought, and was even willing to let the other children pick the game. It was really exciting to see her expand her interpersonal skills and make those connections.
