I am a mother of 2 young boys. I also babysit my nephew on the weekends. A couple of years back, I worked for a wonderful family, both parents worked 9 to 5; so I watched their two toddlers during the daytime.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Picnics, Parks, Reading and listening to music. Before COVID, I would take my oldest son, nephew, and my nephews' friends to museums and City Park on the weekends.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I feel as though being a nanny or caregiving, you have to have a certain amount of compassion for humanity. Being a nanny to me is becoming an extension of that child's parents. Playing a critical role to make sure that the child or children are safe and taken care of.
My experience with special needs children...
I've worked with one Autistic child when I was a camp counselor at the CAC. This little exciting soul was the most interesting and intelligent child I had ever met. It took a lot of patience to understand his little mindset but once I understood him and we were comfortable, he opened to me and allowed me to help him when it came to interacting with the other children.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I worked with the Harris family, there was a moment where their 6-year-old daughter wanted to have a tea party. She expressed to her dad that she wanted a real tea party. The next when I arrived, her father pulled me aside and showed me all of the things he brought for us to do. We had multiple teas and different pastries, he also purchased her a tea party dress! It was so amazing to see how happy that little girl was. We spent the entire afternoon in the backyard being the perfect little ladies.
