"I highly recommend the services of Laura as a nanny. She has been an extraordinary asset to me as a working mother. She watched my daughter Stella from 4 months to 2 years old. Laura genuinely loves interacting with children and enjoys taking care of them. It is evident that Laura has loved watching Stella grow and learn. She built Stella a giant playhouse out of old boxes and brought it over for our playroom. Stella loved it and instantly started moving in all her stuffed animals and toys inside the house. Laura consistently goes above and beyond in her nanny duties. She takes Stella to the park at least once or twice a week and to the zoo often. Laura is an excellent communicator and is very open, honest, and transparent. She sends me updates and pictures of Stella most days. Laura is a very patient, caring and nurturing person. She will sit with Stella and read her a book, help her draw, play a game or finish a puzzle. Laura is very observant, cautious and good at reading children."

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I enjoy planning and implementing child and adult directed arts, music and language activities. I spend time assessing the child’s level, searching for age appropriate activities and creating opportunities that are just past the child’s proficiency level in order to expand their levels. With my current family, I have the playroom set up as a miniature classroom with specific areas for activities and open space for free play. I try to take my kiddo to the park or lake to walk, run, and explore a few times a week and enjoy going to the zoo, children’s museums and other activities I can find that are age appropriate. In the summer, I do try to go to parks/pools occasionally for water play.
I also believe in growing responsible, polite children so I work actively to develop manners and respect for all living creatures with my kids. I do teach children to pick up toys, help with age appropriate chores and guide them to interact in a positive manner with all people and animals.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I feel that a nanny’s role is to be the “favorite aunt”, not a third parent. We need to guide our kids to adulthood in a manner that is consistent with their parents’ wishes but also in accordance with acceptable social expectations such as manners, respect for all life ( including nature) and interactions with others. My job is to set parameters that let a child learn, explore and create while being safe, respectful and learning to accept reasonable limits. I try to speak to children in terms they understand without over explaining and to expand their vocabulary. I try to teach them self awareness and safety. I hope to teach them how to find joy in things like a walk in the woods VS an hour in front of a computer. I try to teach them balance in life and compromise with others. In short, I try to teach them how to be good human beings first. The education comes secondary but well adjusted, confident kids learn easier so I practice first things first.

My experience with special needs children...

Over the course of my career, I have successfully worked with several children at different levels on the spectrum. I have a knack of discovering what works to calm each child with whom I have worked. I have a few certifications from autism specific training.
I have also worked extensively with children with food allergies and am thorough when protecting children from consuming potential allergens. I have been trained to administer epi pens and other medications associated with allergic reactions but have been blessed to never have to use any.
I have also worked in the classroom with a child who was a quadruple amputee and worked out accommodations so she could participate in almost every activity our class participated in, including riding a horse at my (former) farm.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Too many to pick one 😁 but one of my favorites was in January of this year. My nanny kiddo and I had gone to visit her best buddy after a few weeks of not seeing each other due to the holidays. They ran to each other, threw their arms around each other and proceeded to hug and pat backs for about five minutes. It was ADORABLE!!!!

Hi, I'm Max! I'm a 22-year-old recently-graduated student of Ohio University. I studied biology and public health, receiving CPR certification and knowledge of first aid and child behavior. Back home, I have a sweet little brother; he's 16 now, but I stepped in on raising him and spent my teen years babysitting the neighborhood kids. It wasn't always paid, but I always loved it. I am a very creative and active person; my favorite babysitting memories are of the summers I would spend setting up activities and games for my brother and his friends. I hope that you will consider me as a sitter!
