I have taken care of a girl with Down syndrome and a boy who is autistic and nonverbal. Although it's hard to focus on everyone in a classroom setting. I found it helps when I let the other kids know what is going on. For example, the little boy destroys any towers he sees, but when he does that, the other kids get sad or mad because they built it. So they get curious and ask why he doesn't understand, and I let them know that he is just like them, but at his own speed. After helping them understand, they now build towers just for him to destroy because they know he gets happy.
