The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite childcare moments was when the family dog knocked over a plant and dirt went everywhere. Instead of letting the kids panic, I turned it into a team mission. I asked the oldest to bring the plant outside, my niece gathered the broken pot pieces, and I asked the middle nephew to sweep. He immediately said, “I don’t want to sweep!” so I made it fun — I offered a coin flip with high stakes: if he won, he was off the hook; if he lost, he’d sweep the room and the stairs. His eyes lit up, he agreed instantly, and I said, “Alright — heads I win, tails you lose.” I flipped the coin,
and the room and stairs were swept without complaints.
