Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I am currently a Paraeducator in the Jeffco school district, which I've worked with special needs kids ages 5 to 19 years old. I was a substitute teacher for 1 year and will be getting my BA in Special Needs and General Education. I was also a Registered Behavioral Technician working with children on the spectrum with ASD doing ABA therapy.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to sing, dance, read, play games, I have been known to play wrestling (safely), I love going to the park, the pool, playing pretend, and just being silly kid myself sometimes.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Giving a child and safe and loving time while they are young. I also believe that parents should know who and what is happening with their young child every day and know that the kid is being taken care of. Some daycares and other centers can have some struggles with things. Having a nanny with their attention center on a single family can give a better peace of mind to parents.
My experience with special needs children...
Please ask if you need more info but I will have a BA in Special Education and have been a RBT for ABA therapy and a Paraeducator both group and 1 on 1 for special needs. I have been trained and delagated for many different medical needs such as seizure care, G/J Tube use, diapering for older children, wheelchair safety, and others as needed types of care.
The most important part about being a nanny...
When I was a live in nanny, the young boy and my daughter grew quite close and I would read them to bed every night. He was on the spectrum and he liked a specific book for a while so I read it every night. One night I was running late and my daughter picked the book up and read the book to the boy from memory since they were both pre-reading age. It was great to see both of them enjoying the book without me. His family and I still talk to each other after moving states, and he calls me his Aunt now.
