More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I worked for Partnership for Children for over two years. This line of work entailed caring for foster children who had previously “blown-out” of their foster care home placement. Some of my tasks included basic needs such as cooking meals, cleaning, homework help, hygiene routines, & transportation. More specific needs included de-escalating angry outbursts, co-regulation, teaching how to have healthy relationships with adults, managing individual treatment plans, facilitating quality time, & keeping a consistent environment. I’ve taken many trauma informed care trainings throughout my employment as well as gaining my CPR/FirstAid certification.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Some of my favorite activities to do with children are outings to hiking trails/riverside trails, coloring/ crafts, watching new movies/cartoons, reading books out loud, & cooking a good meal & eating together.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Creating safety & connection. I want to facilitate a genuine bond with the children in my care & create an environment they feel safe in & can count on having their needs met.
My experience with special needs children...
My experience with special needs are predominantly trauma care related. I attended many extracurricular trainings outside of work in group settings, at work, & alone with recommended books pertaining to my work. Much of my training involves creating an environment for kids to form healthy attachments with adults so they can form those same healthy relationships with peers & as adults.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments with an 8 year old boy who struggled deeply with connecting & feeling safe with others told me “I love you” & gave me a big hug. I had been working with him for almost a year & have never heard him say “I love you” & had only been granted a handful of hugs. Watching him soften & feel safe in that moment was incredibly rewarding.
