My experience with special needs children...
I was a one-on-one teacher for special needs kids for 5 months at a school. I would be assigned a different student out of the 8 we had every day. I would teach them, help them participate in regular class, read with them, help them regulate their emotions, and love them.

When one of my little girls told me I probably shouldn't sing to her anymore. It made me laugh historically. She was 4 at the time. Apparently it wasn't as good as her mom. Or when a different little girl I nannied for would just always randomly tell me how much she loved me. That made me so happy!
