More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
I spent two summers during college working as a camp counselor at an overnight camp. I was also a camp director after I graduated college. As a director, I oversaw a small staff and the day to day operations of the camp. I spent my last semester of college as a part-time nanny for an 18-month old and babysat for various families. I also served with an AmeriCorps program called City Year where I worked as an English tutor and mentor to at-risk tenth graders. Currently I work for an international exchange student organization part-time. My job is to find host families for high school foreign exchange students for the school year. While they are here I plan at least 3 activities with them and have monthly check-ins with them and their host families. I love this job but I'm looking for a full-time job that is more hands on and gives me the opportunity to work with children more directly.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love to play outside. I think nature is the ultimate playground. Taking walks or bike rides through the park, going to a play scape and letting the kids run around and swing and slide. I also love pool time, I used to be a certified lifeguard and taught swim lessons so this is something I also really enjoy doing. Some of my other favorite activities are reading and playing indoors. Letting kids use their imaginations and playing games with them, like having tea parties or playing dress up. For younger children like toddlers and infants, the appropriate amount of play time so they don't get overstimulated is fun. I also love reading to younger kids.
The most important part about being a nanny...
The 18-month old little girl that I nannied for during college knew some sign language. It was fun to learn basic things with her and see her learn to understand more of a conversation and start moving from signing to actually speaking.
