More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
My past and present experiences began with a wonderful family in 2009. I started with their first daughter at 3months and then they added two more girls that are now 8 and 6. Unfortunately they’re moving out of Ny soon. My responsibilities were but not limited to taking the baby for walks, music classes, going to the park meeting new playmates. Reading and tummy time, then transitioning to a sleep schedule and eventually helping with potty training. As time went on getting kids ready for school. Prepare breakfast and lunch, school drop off and pick ups, afterschool activities, doctor appointments, homework and helping with school projects. Dinner, baths, cleaning the house, laundry, walking the dogs, errands and the list goes on. Looking forward to meeting another wonderful family for years to come.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I enjoy being out and about. The park, pool, library getting together with other nannies/ family and friends that have children. Painting, coloring all of the fun things I can think of when I was a kid.
The most important part about being a nanny...
Seeing the child(ren) getting excited when I get there and the watching them laugh and have fun.This Melts my heart.
My experience with special needs children...
Prior to the family I am still working for I have worked with another family. Their son has sensory and on the mild side of spectrum. He had multiple outbursts daily and I learned things that worked well to calm him down. For example when he would get over stimulated and or upset he would scream, cry and try to get aggressive with me. I found that bringing him to a safe space let him calm down and talked to him worked wonders. It helped him learn how to understand his feelings and react in a healthy way.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments (which I had so many great moments) but this one stuck with me the most. I nannied prior to 2009 to a 6 year girl. She was not happy that her mom hired help. I was trying my best to make her happy but she was always yelling at me and kicked me a few times. I don’t put up with stuff like this and I was going to confront her parents but I said you never know what someone is going through so I just kept trying to be her friend and eventually she started to trust me and opened up to me. She told me she was sorry but didn’t know me and that she wanted her mom. We eventually became silly buddies. So she went from crying that I was there to crying when my shift ended. It made my heart melt. You have to have patience and let them feel comfortable.
