More About Me
Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...
Growing up, I worked in a home daycare from grade school through high school. In high school I was employed in the infant-toddler room of a local daycare, and additionally interned at a local pre-kindergarten while completing an early education certification program. I interned and student taught in various high schools while receiving my undergraduate degree. During school breaks, I substitute taught and mainly covered elementary classrooms. After graduating, I taught 6th grade ELA for 5 years before moving to Maine.
Activities I enjoy doing with children...
I love spending time outdoors and spend my days going for hikes, going to the beach, etc. If your family gardens or is interested in starting one, I would love to spend time caring for plants with your kiddos and teaching them how to prepare the food they’ve grown. On rainy days, indoor movement like yoga is a favorite past time and I would love to take trips to the library, childrens’ museum, etc. I am an avid reader (and previous ELA teacher) and love reading with kids and teaching them how to create and tell stories. I do not care for much screen time but when a slow afternoon is needed, sometimes there is nothing better than building a pillow fort and popping some popcorn.
My experience with special needs children...
I have experience working with children with developmental and social-emotional disabilities in public school settings. My graduate studies specialized in caring for adolescents with diverse needs, including those related to trauma, autism, learning disabilities, etc. My experience working with kiddos who have physical disabilities is limited, but I am always willing to learn and adapt my care.
