A little bit about me

I have had a decades long career working with animals and educating children about them, having run a Nature Center, worked on a farm and at a zoo. I have a passion for sharing my joy, knowledge and curiosity for animals and the natural world with the next generation and in educating and working with children. I've also spent many years working in the service industry. I'm an avid people pleaser and delight in acts of service and feeding people. I have developed a deep love of cooking and baking, even having gotten to bake for one of the restaurants I worked at. Being an older sister with a 6.5 year age gap has instilled caregiving in me, being a mother's helper is my natural state of comfort as that is where I've spent almost my entire life. I truly believe that becoming a Nanny would be the perfect and most natural next step for me in my employment journey, as I hope to be starting a family of my own one day.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Before entering college most of my early employment experiences were working in childcare and as a Mother's helper. The first time I helped with the twins they were only one week old! (They have since graduated college!!!) I helped their mother when she had them since at the time she also had children that were 2, 5 and 7, this was when I was 14. As a Mother's helper I would help cook, change diapers, feed the children, do laundry, tidy the home, entertain the older children and accompany them on family outings. From 12-18 years old I was the child care provider for my Quaker Meetinghouse every Sunday for children of all ages. I would watch the children for about an hour (once a month it would be three hours), facilitating games, planning crafts, reading books, and providing a snack before bringing them up to join the adults. After college I spent a year as a 3 year old preschool teacher and what an exciting and thrilling age when they are learning so much!

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I absolutely love to be teaching children and feeding their curiosity and sharing my excitement for the world and all there is to learn. When I read a book or play with toys, I may not just read the words, I might also ask what sound the animal makes or ask them to find the color red, or let's count how many butterflies there are! I like to be animated and am not afraid to be silly! I make different voices when I read a book and I like to keep things joyful and positive. I also like teamwork and leading by example. So if we've all helped make a mess with a craft or a game, then it would only be right if we all help to clean it up. The cleanup song is the best with little ones! I love crafting and making art and of course love playing games. I've been on a swim team and a soccer team throughout my childhood, so I'm happy to be active too!

The most important part about being a nanny...

There is no greater joy than to change someone else's life for the better; to inspire them to learn about the world around them, to get them excited about something they're doing, to help them through a challenge like navigating emotions, and to help teach them and mold them into the people they'll become. I have a deep understanding of the immensity and responsibility of helping to raise a child. Being welcomed into a family home and helping care for and encourage a child is something to be taken very seriously. At the same token, it should also be fun! Interacting with children brings out the inner child in all of us, and I like to nurture that connection with them and be silly and provide them with positivity and joy in a safe environment.

My experience with special needs children...

I ran a Nature Center for 10+ years in which we designed and conducted many programs for special needs groups and individuals. I have also run programs for special needs groups while working at Country Ark Farm. It is a joy to get to know them, understand them and help them navigate their emotions, bodies and the world around them.
