I was a kindergarten English teacher in both South Korea and Vietnam. I have worked as a newborn care specialist from birth to two years and worked for HNW families with multiple kids of all ages, pets, and full staff. I also worked as an overnight summer camp counselor for 8-16 year old girls, taught dance for 3(three)-16 year olds, and taught cooking for 13-16 year olds. I was a live-in researcher for childhood development in a preschool during university. My work was submitted to the Society of Childhood Research & Development.

For me, it’s safety and connection. It’s my job to make sure the kids are safe, #1. And #2, especially with larger families, creating that space during the day to spend one on one quality time with each kid. Sometimes they just want to cuddle, and I make sure I take a pause in my day to ensure they are getting the connection they need.

My favorite moment was when I accidentally taught an 18 month old how to growl. I was growling at the dog and then the next day the child growled at me. And it was really realistic, I couldn’t believe it. Kids are sponges. It made me laugh so hard. Also, any moments where the kids are mispronouncing words and I’m trying to hold back tears from laughter as I’m breaking down the word so they can pronounce it correctly.
