A little bit about me

Hours fully open & negotiable. Rate is negotiable depending on needs & number of children. Prefer to help clean, cook & do laundry as well as care for multiple children, as I do daily in my own life. My goal, next to a child's safety & happiness, is to lighten their parents work load & allow for y'all to have better quality time together!

I am a mother of two wonderful boys, aged 20 & 13. They require very little of my time in comparison to infants & toddlers so I've found my new passion in doing what I believe was my most successful role, caring for children, only now it doesn't matter if they're mine or not! Two bachelor's degrees & had that corporate career but I'd rather do what I enjoy!

I have been babysitting since I was 13, after receiving my certification from the Westchester Public Library.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I've volunteered at my local church, assisting w/VBS & as an assistant teacher for Sunday school. Please be assured, I'd never discuss religious matters w/a child unless specifically requested. Furthermore, I have operated both a children's daycare & a doggie daycare from my home, not at the same time, of course!

This fall I started w/a foreign family w/live in in-laws, 3 under 3 (oldest is autistic). So I've acquired the knowledge & honed in the skills to confidently care for those on the low to moderate end of the spectrum. Unfortunately, the in-laws and culture differences were very difficult and then I tore a ligament in my shoulder and had to have rotator cuff surgery. Which I am now recovering very well from and at about 75% which is more than enough to perform nannying duties required.

Prior to them, I had just concluded over a year w/a truly remarkable family. Who relocated to the city for work. A bittersweet experience, as their baby girl captured my heart & I miss her so.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Arts & crafts are just one. I often attempt DIY projects at home, though the results resemble something a child might create, but I am learning & enjoying the process.

I am very passionate about the outdoors, from narure walks & gathering wildflowers to beach days! I cherish any opportunity to engage in outdoor activities & escape the constant presence of screens. While I do appreciate a good movie or phone app, considering the prevalence of iPads in our classrooms, a balanced approach is essential. Technology is undoubtedly the future, but fresh air & vitamin D are crucial for nurturing a healthy mind capable of embracing that technology.

I believe that educational opportunities can be found in every endeavor, especially considering the inquisitive nature of children; I am amazed by their capacity to absorb information. Furthermore, I consistently remind myself that children learn by observing, I hope to contribute only joy to their learning experiences.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Abiding to the parents requests and allowing consistency for the child. So much change occurs while growing up, I'd hope to not be one and allow the child to choose when and how that change occurs. Obviously, whatever momma says goes!

My experience with special needs children...

Only with those on the spectrum. My own son has ADHD but I've been able to manage without medication (not easy at 1st but we managed). However, every situation is different and it's the parents right to choose.
*I'm very willing and eager to learn so if training is possible I'd be more than happy to get some education!

The most important part about being a nanny...

I had been sitting for a neighbor turned girl friend's 2 sons. After a few months the youngest son (3 or 4 at the time) went to call me mom but corrected himself. We laughed about it and I told him thank you so much for almost giving me that honor but your mom is one in a million and never replaceable. Then I asked him what makes her such a good mom and he listed the usual. He then got my youngest (2 or 3 at the time) to start listing why I was a good mom, it was the sweetest thing ever!!!
