My experience with special needs children...
My cousin has adhd and autism. I have watched him and spent plenty of time with him in my life. I also have a friend, whoms younger brother has Down’s syndrome. We did plenty of activities together when I was watching him, and he was difficult sometimes but I managed to help him with quite a bit of his social and internal issues. To this day he loves to be around me and I love him with all of my heart.
The most important part about being a nanny...
I was babysitting these two children. They didn’t really like me at first, it was their first time having a babysitter. I tried to do things that would make their time with me be more enjoyable..but they didn’t agree. I decided to leave them both be while still caring for them, until that day, the younger brother thought there was a break in. There was indeed somebody trying to get in..someone that the kids did not know. I did not let the man in, and called the police, and then their parents. I hid the kids upstairs in a closet and told them to protect each other, even though I was sure the situation was handled. After the police arrived and the guy was arrested, I told the kids to come out. They hugged and hugged me for a long time. They gave me cookies from their pantry. They played games with me and showed me their favorite shows until their parents arrived. Those kids still call me every week to check on me.
