In other words, I feel that it’s important to connect with the child/children, motivate them, play with them, and just be another support system to have when their parents aren’t home or just need some extra help when life gets a little too busy.

My experience with special needs children...
My cousins have Autism so I have experience with that. One cousin actually has autism, ADHD and Bipolar disorder.
(In the pediatric office I worked in, one of our doctors’ specialty was ADHD and Autism so I was able to see a variety of children on the spectrum).

As an RBT we teach our kiddos fine motor skills, gross motor skills, echoics, manding, de-escalation for one self, peer play, sharing, living skills, communication skills, self-care skills, all while monitoring and minimizing problem behaviors!! On the side I was a sitter/nanny for a family for 6 years. They have 3 kids ages 1-6. My tasks were to clean up play areas/eating areas, cook/meal prep/snack prep, play of course, crafts. On occasion I house/babysat for the weekend with all kiddos! I had another family with whom I cared for their adult son with Autism. I did light cleaning/cooking just for a couple hours.
