Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Movies, crafts (I love teaching the kids how to use what's around the house to make something new! We've used massive boxes during a family's move for a lemonade stand, and broken measuring cups to have tea parties), going to do cheap things around town/walkable places from their house (I love dogs so I try to make it a point to walk their pets with them!), dance parties, hiking (also dogs are welcome in my truck if need be!), swimming (I am comfortable watching kids in the water! I nannied four kids on Silver Lake for three summers), forts!!, cooking/baking, homemade fun!
The most important part about being a nanny...
is making the kids feel comfortable with me in their space! Having grown up with so many older siblings, I can't relate to a new stranger ever being in charge of me, therefore ever having to trust a stranger to watch over me. I like to make it super known with the kids that I enjoy being there and appreciate my time with them.
My experience with special needs children...
I nannied a 7 year old girl with autism a few years ago along with her little sister. It taught me so much and I really enjoyed that gig unlike any other I'd had. I am confident in myself being very patient and empathetic, especially with feelings and expression.
