My experience with special needs children...
I am a psychiatric nursing assistant specializing in the care of children, particularly with children aged 9-17, with those who are "gifted" and with those having special needs.
Currently, I teach those with special needs, primarily children between the ages of 12 and 18. I used to teach in the broader sense, both in public and private sectors: in public schools as a substitute teacher and then as a teacher's assistant; and in private as a private instructor, sometimes for large workshops, but mostly on an individual or "small group" basis for gifted children in primary or secondary school, and for university students or "continuing education" adults.
My first degree was in engineering. I am now pursing a doctorate in business psychology. After I complete my studies, I plan to open a hybrid boarding-school/nursing-home.

The most important part about being a nanny...
There was a child in my class who was being bullied for eating apples. One day, I brought in a tray of apples, all cut to resemble ladybugs. The children loved it so much that the bullied child began to receive a lot of positive attention from his peers for his like of apples and other fruits.
