The most important part about being a nanny…For me personally, nannying and babysitting provides a chance to works within someone else’s expectations. Your child is of the utmost importance and meeting their scheduling and needs helps to build my own character as well. Helping out parents/guardians is also a gift in itself, I know how stressful life can sometimes get! The opportunity to open new doors and new views of the world to children is so precious. Teaching music, new languages, and even basic skills like kindness and service is the ideal way to give back to the rising generations.
My experience with special needs children…I worked for about two months with an 11-year-old boy who had autism. I taught him to swim and get over his fears of the water and by the times we finished he was splashing around all on his own!

We’ve also had several autistic children come through out nursery program at Bethany Church.
My favorite nanny moment…In the nursery at my church, I was watching a class of 2’s. We had one particular boy who loved playing dress-up, and loved the attention he got for it. When picture day came, he refused to have his picture taken unless he was in the firefighter costume. Sure enough to his mother’s delight we posed him with the firetruck toy and he became the poster child for that year!
