More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

I love volunteering at Camp Smile every summer. I started attending as a consoler in high school and it changed my life. I have always wanted to be a teacher, but didn’t realize how much I loved caring for people and exposing people to new experiences until I went to camp.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I am a huge nerd for arts and crafts! Whether it is indoors or outdoors, getting messy and creating art always shows a side of kids that is unique to them. I also enjoy playing games, it is fun to teach new cards games to kids and watch how they figure out the different rules in their own ways.

The most important part about being a nanny...

Communication and Safety is definitely the most important part of being a nanny.

My experience with special needs children...

I have cared for three different families that had members with special needs or a disability. One child had autism, and was 7 when I started picking him and his sister up from school. He didn’t have problems frequently, but there were several times that I had to be creative in dealing with tantrums and anger. The two other people both are in a wheelchair, and I have no problem transferring either girl to wherever they need to be. Whether it be the shower, a low sitting couch, the floor, or their bed I am capable of lifting or pivoting. Diapers are also not a problem for me in anyway.
These situations are not especially uncommon or difficult in anyway. Being flexible is very important, and I stretch everyday!

The most important part about being a nanny...

A girl that I once nannied told me one day, she wanted to grow up and live in a castle. Her castle had Five hundred rooms and was the biggest house on her street, and she wanted me to live on the bottom floor to keep the bugs out of her space! I miss killing bugs for her everyday!
