Hi everyone, I’m Makiyla Rainey. I'm 18, and working with kids is truly what I love to do. Honestly, I’ve been surrounded by children my entire life. Growing up with six siblings and being right in the middle of the six, I learned how to handle a busy, chaotic household early on—and it definitely taught me a lot about patience and flexibility! One of my siblings has autism, and helping my mom caring for him is really what sparked my commitment to inclusive childcare. It gave me firsthand experience in understanding unique sensory and emotional needs, and taught me how to make sure every single child feels seen and supported . For the past five years, I’ve been able to bring that background to my work at Connie’s Cribs Crayons Daycare. My 6-year-old brother has autism, and watching his therapy has taught me so much about how he experiences the world. I've learned that he communicates best through repetition, picture cards, and his tablet. He also stems frequently by twisting, turning, and biting, which helps him regulate himself.
