I taught preschool for 12 years, until I left during quarantine to be a stay at home parent to my own children. I was always planning on nannying part time, but, like a lot of people, covid changed our plans!
I taught at the same school for a long time. I was in the young toddler room for two years and then the infant room for six before moving to a school that was a better fit for my values. I wanted to be surrounded by other teachers that I wanted to learn from! It was a good move, I enjoyed my time at my new school and learned a lot. I spent one year floating (teaching in all classrooms ages 6 weeks to five years as needed) and then spent the last three as the Curriculum Director, but still spending a significant amount of time in the classrooms, working with the children and other teachers. During my years teaching, I also babysat for families in my classes regularly, and even nannied once a week for my boss for a few years, after she left to have her own kids.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Personally I most enjoy artistic endeavors, but truly I enjoy setting up fulfilling activities for any interest. Gross motor challenges, dramatic play props and scenes, sensory experiences, bug safaris, you name it! One of my favorite parts of teaching is helping children explore their interests, and working to discover the questions they're asking about the world around them. Play is how children make sense of the world, and it couldn't be more meaningful.
