The most important part about being a nanny...
The most important thing about being a nanny is building a safe, nurturing, and trusting relationship with the child and their family. A great nanny provides consistent care, emotional support, and developmentally appropriate activities while respecting the family’s values and routines. Reliability, patience, and strong communication are key to fostering a healthy and positive environment where the child can thrive.
The most important part about being a nanny...
One of my favorite moments happened during a quiet afternoon when the 6-year-old I nanny for asked if we could “build a kindness machine.” I wasn’t sure what she meant, but I said yes and she grabbed a cardboard box, crayons, and a roll of tape. Together, we created a contraption with buttons labeled “hug,” “compliment,” “joke,” and “dance party.” Every time someone pressed a button, we had to perform that act of kindness for whoever was closest. She ended up “using” it on her little brother, who’d been grumpy all day, and by the end of it, he was laughing and hugging everyone. It was one of those unexpected, heartwarming moments that showed me just how deeply kids understand love and how naturally they want to share it.
