A little bit about me

Hi parents! My name is Marisa and I am the proud parent of my magnum cum laude Pepperdine University Alum daughter Alaina, and my great little boy that’s just as smart as his sissy, Aaron who is 13. I love teaching kids how to learn through play and everyday is something new to learn once they are capable of doing so! Until then, my newborns were lovingly nurtured with lots of interaction, storytime, classical music, and black, white, and red abstract learning toys so they would be stimulated and never just left to lay around by themselves. Once old enough for tummy time, began a whole new adventure of learning for the babies that soaked up every bit of fun while showing their grins often while enjoying themselves and the fun they had around them. I made my babies all organic baby food myself with fresh organic produce and ancient grains cooked daily, they loved it! I would love to care for your precious newborn just as I did my own two. I also was an RDA in a pediatric dental office.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

Age related sit down games to challenge and strengthen their minds, reading books, showing them how beautiful it is outdoors where we live to foster a love of nature, creating their own sticker books, immersing them in activity books (that teach them their letters, numbers, shapes, colors, sight words, penmanship, mazes, coloring), playing catch, creating crafts, asking them what their favorite things to do are, and what would they like to play? Or do? To give them confidence to take the lead and be a leader with a voice and give input and opinions because their voice matters just as much and they are very important young people that are appreciated! Adults can learn just as much from children as the children learn from the adults if they just listened a little bit more and got down to their level and gave them their full attention. It’s so rewarding to see them engage and open up and be themselves! Their smiles, giddy nature, and happiness is infectious!!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Being there when needed, and helping them when they need help and giving them the love and care and nurture they deserve, and being patient and giving them someone they can look up to when they need to and know they will be safe, and cared for and loved.

My experience with special needs children...

My cousin that is much younger than me has down syndrome and being able to interact with her when it’s really tough for her when there’s a lot of commotion and people and for her to come to me and seek me out with that huge smile on her face melts my heart. Then she finds her words and we have wonderful conversations and I get a glimpse into her world and I always enjoy spending as much time with her as I can when our families visit, she’s amazing!
I have a friend who has special needs and also she was my neighbor since we were toddlers. When I look at her I don’t see what those that don’t know her seem to see. I don’t see her physical capabilities as a roadblock, or her speech that others may not be able to understand clearly, as an issue. Being able to interact with these two special people, and to understand them, and for them to understand me brings me happiness and joy because not everyone can do that, and I’m very grateful that I can!

The most important part about being a nanny...

Is when I know I’ve made an impact and I see the wheels turn, and their confidence soar, when they learn something new or master a new skill, and the look on their face is of pure excitement, accomplishment, and pride. Those are my favorite moments with the kiddos!
