Activities I enjoy doing with children...
Nature walks and arts & crafts are my go-to activities. Children are so naturally curious, I find harnessing that interest in novelty really valuable in entertainment and teaching. These are also activities I find can really help shy or younger kids open up to a new adult.
The most important part about being a nanny...
A nanny needs to be a trusted adult for the family *and* the child. Being genuinely invested in the activities and paying attention is key to actually letting them lead. If I'm being sincere and having fun, we're able to build a sincere and fun relationship. I’m sure you could tell me better than I could tell you – even infants will show off their little personalities if you’re paying attention. It’s so special!
My experience with special needs children...
I have worked with children on the autism spectrum and children will allergies!
The most important part about being a nanny...
The best question I've ever been asked: When a dragonfly eats something, do you see the lump go down its body, like a snake?
Something about the logic there just makes me laugh. I think about it whenever I see a dragonfly.
