My experience with special needs children...
I have experience spending time with two of my nephews who have special needs. They can sometimes feel more comfortable staying close to their mom or using their iPads and headphones when they’re around other people. I’ve learned to be patient and not force them into situations they aren’t comfortable with. Instead, I meet them where they are and try to engage with them through things they already enjoy. For example, I’ll ask if I can play with them on their iPad or introduce an activity they might enjoy, which has helped them slowly become more comfortable interacting and participating. I really enjoy seeing them come out of their comfort zone at their own pace and have fun.
