A little bit about me

Hi! My name is Meghan and I am a college student that was previously seeking a degree in Early Childhood Education (for a year and a half) until I decided to take a year off until I resume college to seek a degree to become a Child’s Life Specialist. I was a collegiate swimmer until I was diagnosed (and beat) a type of Leukemia. While undergoing care, I provided a lot of emotional aide to the parents and children on the pediatric care unit by making them blankets, playing games with the patients, helping with school work, and whatever else to help pass the time for them. I’ve enjoyed working with kids for multiple years, between babysitting, coaching youth soccer, and spending time with the children I met in the hospital.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

During my years on a club swim team, we had a program called the “little brother/sister program” in which we provided encouragement and helpful tips to our younger swimmers. I also coached a toddler soccer class through a local youth program. In High school, I participated in a “Panther Mentoring Program” with children that faced difficulties in their home environment. My mentoring provided an “older sister” figure in these children’s lives where I was able to pull them from their classroom for a short period of time to play board games, do crafts, and other fun activities. Through seeking my Early Childhood Education degree, I was a teachers assistant for an afterschool homework program at a school local to my college town. This course, being in a low-income school district, allowed me to get an understanding of how to work with children from multiple different backgrounds, family situations, incomes, and mental abilities.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I love being able to teach the kids I babysit or Nanny for new things. Something such as teaching a baby to stick their tongue out makes me so incredibly happy as I am able to watch them think and process new skills.

My experience with special needs children...

I do not have too much experience working with special needs children besides with my nephew who is on the autism spectrum. However, I would love the opportunity to gain more experience working with children different needs and abilities.
