A little bit about me

Hi there!

I’m Meghan — I have a degree in Psychology with a focus on Child Development, and I’ve worked in both behavioral and special education units within schools. I’m also currently pursuing my teaching certification to deepen my skills as a caregiver and educator.

My approach most closely aligns with Montessori-style learning — I love helping children explore the world as little scientists, discovering and growing through hands-on experiences.

I’d love to learn more about your family and how I might be a good fit!

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

-Behavioral Department
(Elementary/Middle School)
I headed a new department in the district for behaviorally challenged and special needs children. We worked one on one with high-level strategy, consistent action, reasonable expectations, and patience to modify behavior and foster emotional intelligence and development in our kiddos.

-Substitute Teacher
(Elementary/Middle)
One of the most fun jobs in the world!! Conducted lesson plans and managed a class of 25-30+ students.

-Daycare
(3yrs-5yrs)
Some of the funniest things you’ll ever hear come from kids in this age group. By far the most entertaining job I’ve ever had! Class of 25 kids. Had a schedule for meals/snacks/nap. Did lessons and exciting, engaging learning, play, and creative activities. (Child ran learning, more Montessori style)

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

-Parks
-Water parks (have been lifeguard certified)
-Zoo
-Museums
-Mall
-Aquarium
-Snow cone trips
-Hot chocolate runs
-Movies (or just the movie arcade and popcorn section depending on what the kids prefer)
-Educational Lessons
-Emotional Lessons
-Encouragement of monitored independent activity and practice of skills (helps develop autonomy, fine/gross motor skills, and confidence in the kids)

The most important part about being a nanny...

Patience and adaptability. As great as that may sound to you, and I don’t mean this disrespectfully, but I’m referring to the children with that answer, not the parents.

Being patient while they work through problems and learn new skills while also being highly adaptable to meet any and all physical, mental, or emotional needs. Sometimes what the parent wants isn’t what the kid needs that day and so rather than doing lessons we take a day of movies and rest.

I think it’s crucial a nanny prioritize and meet the needs of the child or children above all else and do so with patience and the willingness/ability to adapt immediately when necessary.

My experience with special needs children...

Behavioral Department for school district. Lots of one on one time working with special needs children. Mostly Autism, ADHD, and defiant behavior disorder.

Bachelors in study of psychology with a focus on children and development.

I have extensive knowledge and first hand experience with this group of kiddos and am very skilled at working with them. Not to mention I love it! Always so exciting to see progress and growth with these kids.

The most important part about being a nanny...

I had taken a 3 year old boy, 5 year old girl, and 7 year old boy to the park. Everyone walked through the dirt and little nearby creek (so you can imagine the mud situation I had going on!). I decided they were so dirty we may as well stop off for snow cones, couldn’t get much worse! Well to say the least, the brown on their clothes turned rainbow colored while we baked in the sun at a faded blue picnic table that should’ve had an umbrella attached to it. A woman approached me saying, “Ohhh I remember when mine were that age!! I used to let them do the same thing! They’d get so dirty but they had so much fun, it was always so worth it!” This was one of the funniest times I had experienced where someone assumed all 3 kids were mine. Was such a crazy thought to me in my very early 20’s! 3 kids already? Impossible!! 😂 The memory definitely stuck with me.
