A little bit about me

Hi, I'm Mei and I'm a forensics major who will be transferring soon. I just moved out of home for the first time, so I'm taking a break from school to try and get a good steady job doing something I really care about. I have a job at the moment with some peers I find I don't really get along with. The modern college-age students who end up my co-workers aren't really my crowd of people I go to for friends and have been driving me to look for something better. I believe I'm more efficient on a smaller or even one-on-one scale and nannying has been ideal for me since helping to raise my cousins growing up and encouraging them to grow up to be the confident, independent thinkers I'm so proud of today. I've also been a summer camp counselor for kids ages 7 to 15! With a future interview I am hoping to achieve something similar here too, and to tell you more about my work experience. I'd love the opportunity to get to know you as well to see if I can be a right fit for the nanny posting.

More About Me

Relevant experience where I also cared for children were...

Last year I was a summer camp counselor from June to August for kids ages 7 to 15- it was an experience that taught me a lot about communicating with children and was extremely fulfilling. I've done paid tutoring on multiple occasions (months long) for kids ranging in age from 9 to 13 and babysat/nannied children as young 1 years old.

The youngest age I have experience with is newborn as I was a helping hand for both my younger cousins (boy and girl, 3 years apart) up until more recent years when my schedule became busier with retail work. I am, however, uncomfortable with taking care of children younger than 5 as that is not something I feel I have enough experience with.

Activities I enjoy doing with children...

I love being asked questions and asking questions! I've been able to turn it into a game in the past and I found that it helped me get to know the kids I've taken care of and helped them get to know me and warm up to me.

I'm an outdoorsy person and I love taking walks and teaching about nature- the summer camp I worked at was Old West themed with horse riding, lessons in animal care, general outdoor safety, and many other subjects. On top of that, I'm generally pretty knowledgeable in outdoors, plants, and animals.

Arts and crafts are a passion and a hobby! From coloring to figuring out new projects, I've had lots of fun in the past teaching things like origami, scrapbooking, and even basic painting. I've also taught piano a few times and love to sing :)

My experience with special needs children...

One of my most memorable experiences was with a preteen girl with Tourette's. It was honestly very refreshing and she was an absolute joy to work with. On a day to day basis at work, no matter where I've worked since all my jobs have required customer service, I've been told that I interact with and communicate with kids on the autism spectrum easier than my coworkers and that watching these interactions has been very sweet. I have found myself that I have better conversations and fonder stories to tell and memories with kids with autism. This was something I experienced throughout school as a child myself but also something I was able to more actively use as a counselor at the summer camp as there were a handful of kids that stayed during our week long overnights and day camps.
